Italy – When an artist of Charlotte de Witte’s calibre steps into the booth, audio quality is not a secondary concern. On Saturday 11 April, Piazza Matteotti hosted the Belgian star’s dj set – founder of the independent label KNTXT and the dominant figure in the international techno scene – with the Outline GTO C-12 system of Show Technologies, based in Recco (Genova). The event, promoted by the City of Genova and produced by RST Events and OPS Eventi, drew 8,000 people who remained in the square for the full duration of the set, with total attendance across the evening exceeding 20,000.
Born in Ghent in 1992, Charlotte de Witte entered the electronic music scene in 2010 under the alias Raving George, rapidly establishing herself as one of the most recognisable names in techno worldwide. She has become a fixture at the genre’s most important events – Awakenings, Sònar, Kappa FuturFestival, Coachella, Tomorrowland – where she has delivered landmark performances, including closing the main stage at Tomorrowland both in Belgium and Brazil: the first woman to achieve this at both editions. Five consecutive titles as best techno DJ in the world, from 2020 to 2025, complete a trajectory that has no parallel in the contemporary scene.
A techno concert in the historic centre of a city like Genova is not an ordinary undertaking. The decision proved not only bold, but capable of generating an impact far beyond local boundaries: videos filmed in the square by fans spread rapidly across social media, while Charlotte de Witte amplified the event’s visibility further through her own channels. Within just a few hours, the story had reached every corner of the world – from South Korea to Chile, across the United States and throughout Europe – and found its way onto Italian national television news. A format that, in its originality, is already a source of inspiration.
Audio was handled by rental service Show Technologies, whose Outline GTO C-12 system delivered consistent, uniform sound coverage across the full extent of the square. Outline Mantas systems were deployed as monitors for Charlotte de Witte at the console.
On the technical side, Giancarlo “Gerry” Paladini worked on behalf of Show Technologies, handling system modelling and optimisation via Outline OpenArray 2 software. For the 12 Outline DBS 18-2 subwoofers, arranged in two groups of six, Paladini applied a 100° arc-delay configuration to distribute low-frequency energy effectively across the lateral areas of the square, combined with a cardioid arrangement – a solution that significantly reduces low-end build-up on stage while concentrating acoustic energy towards the audience, delivering a cleaner, more controlled result across the entire listening area.
Production was handled, as always, with impeccable precision, by Alessandro Orlando and Nicolò Sasso, partners in both companies: RST Events and OPS Eventi – leaders in the production of music, cultural and sports events at national level, with deep roots across the Ligurian territory. Both companies bring consolidated expertise in the technical and organisational management of high-profile events, overseeing every aspect from logistics and safety to communications and technical staging.
