MILOS (part of Area Four Industries) has introduced the ‘Invisible Roof’. The structure was constructed in the beautiful city of Bergen, Norway, on the southwestern coast surrounded by mountains and fjords.

The Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2015 and on the 22 and 23 August 2024, the orchestra hosted two outdoor concerts.

Partnering with Creative Technology Norway, Area Four Industries designed and installed a venue featuring an arched roof constructed from keder profiles and transparent canopies. This design allowed the orchestra to perform under the open sky while being fully protected from the elements, ensuring the show went on without a hitch. This structure is designed to provide weather protection without obstructing the scenic views and the MILOS Invisible Roof is a testament to a modern design that harmonises with nature.

The MILOS roof structure has pushed the boundaries of modern stage architecture, boasting a 19-metre span and a clearance height of 9.4 meters, providing an expansive stage deck of 20 x19 meters. The invisible roof can support up to 30 tonnes distributed across its six robust arches, each arch capable of bearing 5 tonnes of weight.

The design also prioritises efficiency and adaptability making it a solution for a wide range of events, from intimate concerts to large-scale productions.

Creative Technology in Bergen has brought this design to life, combining local expertise with engineering.

This approach emphasises MILOS’s commitment to blending sustainability with design, changing what is possible in transparent architecture and redefining how people experience outdoor spaces in urban environments.
