Visual Productions brings intelligent lighting control to Maximum Copenhagen.

Denmark – Located in the heart of Copenhagen beneath the striking Kaktus Towers at Dybbølsbro, Maximum Copenhagen brings bowling, virtual reality, karaoke, pixel games, escape rooms, and dining together under one roof. To manage the lighting of a 5,300 m² entertainment complex with 15 different activities, the project has incorporated Visual Productions technology.

The new Maximum flagship venue features 28 bowling lanes and a wide range of areas that require their own lighting environments while also needing to respond to what is happening in real time. The system was designed and installed by Peter Stenner of Danish Automation, with products supplied by Matrix Sales, Visual Productions’ Danish distributor.

One system for multiple experiences

The diversity of Maximum Copenhagen presented a particular challenge: each area needed its own atmosphere while remaining part of a coherent and flexible lighting control system.

The bowling lanes, virtual reality areas, karaoke rooms, staircases, and various decorative pixel elements all require different lighting behaviors. Some scenes are triggered according to a schedule, others respond to specific events, while others need to react immediately to what guests are doing.

At the heart of the infrastructure is a Visual Productions CueCore3, which coordinates the lighting throughout the venue.

The controller manages everything from cleaning and night modes, triggered by simple button inputs, to real-time responses. When a virtual reality session begins, for example, the system can automatically transition the lighting to ensure that players can see properly inside their headsets.

The same platform also controls the lighting in the karaoke rooms, staircases, and decorative pixel elements distributed throughout the centre, keeping all these experiences connected through a single control infrastructure.

Pixel control for the bowling lanes

One of the project’s most distinctive visual elements can be found along the bowling lanes themselves.

The SPI LED strips installed along the lanes are controlled by a Visual Productions SpiNode, which manages the pixel content and can completely transform the atmosphere of the area.

As a result, an area that can maintain a calm atmosphere during the day can quickly become a dynamic entertainment environment through a simple action, whether using a switch or pressing a button on the karaoke stage.

An installation designed to grow

Although the current implementation focuses on the venue’s main entertainment areas, the infrastructure has been designed with future expansion in mind.

The ability to expand the system allows the control platform to evolve alongside the venue and accommodate new experiences while maintaining an architecture ready to respond to future requirements.

With more than 1.5 million guests visiting Bowl’n’Fun & Maximum locations across Denmark every year, Maximum Copenhagen aims to set a new benchmark for modern entertainment centres. In this context, the combination of Visual Productions CueCore3 and SpiNode provides a control infrastructure capable of connecting multiple entertainment environments within a single experience.
