Chile – Sennheiser was a key part of Lollapalooza Chile 2026, supporting artists, sound engineers, rental companies, and technical teams throughout the three days of live music and art held at Parque O’Higgins.

The festival, produced by Lotus, took place on March 13, 14, and 15, marking its return to this venue and presenting an additional challenge: being located in the city center, it poses high complexity in terms of radiofrequency management due to the density of the spectrum in that area.

For the brand, it is essential to be part of the main festivals in the region, working together with audio engineers and industry professionals in the technical coordination of events.

During the festival, various solutions were implemented, with the Sennheiser Spectera system as the technical centerpiece, enhancing audio performance on 4 of the 6 stages. Other Sennheiser systems were also used, such as the Digital 6000, 2000 IEM, and EW-DX series, along with Neumann solutions like MCM microphones for different instruments and KH monitors used in the streaming transmission.

The fourteenth edition brought together some of the most relevant names in the global and local contemporary music scene, including Sabrina Carpenter, Chappell Roan, Deftones, Lorde, Skrillex, Doechii, Lewis Capaldi, and Chilean bands such as Los Bunkers, DRACMA, Zaturno, De Saloon, among others.

Chalo González, FoH Engineer for Los Bunkers, commented on his experience with Spectera handheld microphones: “They felt transparent, free in the connection, and pristine. I perceived greater openness in the microphones.”

Centralized RF coordination with SoundBase
The radiofrequency coordination of the entire festival was carried out through the SoundBase software. This task, led by Sennheiser, made it possible to monitor and manage in real time approximately 1,400 frequencies used by different artists in their shows, helping to ensure stability and reliability in live audio transmissions.

Spectera on 4 Lollapalooza stages
Rental companies (Olavarría Sonido, Chino Santana Refuerzo Sonoro, and Spectra), together with Sennheiser, deployed the Spectera ecosystem across four festival stages (Cenco Malls, Banco de Chile, Lotus Stage, and Kidzapalooza), using Spectera SEK bidirectional bodypacks and Spectera SKM handheld microphones with MD 9235 capsules.

Through Spectera DAD antennas positioned at strategic points, monitoring and microphone coverage was ensured, maximizing the reception and transmission area and enabling operation across multiple stage zones (backstage, stage, front of PA, and even FoH), allowing multi-zone configurations for in-ear systems and microphones within the ecosystem.

Unlike traditional narrowband systems, Spectera introduces a paradigm shift through WMAS technology, allowing operation on a single 6 MHz carrier to transmit and receive multiple audio signals. This makes it possible to manage up to 16 stereo in-ear mixes and 32 microphones within the same RF channel, significantly simplifying operation by requiring only the selection of one carrier.

One of the most relevant differentiators was evident in spectrum management during the festival: it was possible to reuse the same Spectera frequency across the four stages where the system was deployed, without generating interference or conflicts between carriers. In a high RF-density environment such as Parque O’Higgins, this not only simplified coordination in SoundBase but also set a new standard in spectral efficiency—something that would not be feasible with traditional systems.

This capability made it possible to drastically reduce operational complexity and optimize the use of available spectrum, establishing Spectera as a solution specifically designed for large-scale events.

The six Spectera handhelds stood out as one of the major innovations for the region, with very positive reception from artists and technicians during the festival.

Festival streaming
For the festival streaming, Sennheiser MKH 416 and MKH 8018 microphones—stereo shotgun microphones—were used, while monitoring was carried out with different models of Neumann KH monitors, which are essential as a reference for critical decision-making in the final transmitted mix.

Sennheiser’s participation in Lollapalooza Chile 2026 reaffirms the company’s commitment to the development of professional audio technologies aimed at addressing the technical challenges of large-scale live events. Through the Spectera ecosystem and radiofrequency coordination via SoundBase, the brand once again demonstrated its ability to support artists, engineers, and production teams in one of the most demanding environments in the global music industry.
