Welcoming 4,547 visitors from 51 countries, alongside 160 exhibitors and brands and a dedicated professional education programme, the inaugural edition of Prolight + Sound Bangkok marked the beginning of a new initiative connecting international technology providers with opportunities across Southeast Asia.

Thailand – The development of the entertainment industry depends on more than technological innovation. It also requires platforms that connect manufacturers, distributors, system integrators, production companies and professionals, creating business opportunities and facilitating access to knowledge. This is the premise behind Prolight + Sound Bangkok, a new trade show designed to strengthen links between international technology suppliers and the evolving needs of Southeast Asia’s markets.

Held at the Bangkok International Trade & Exhibition Centre (BITEC), the inaugural edition welcomed 4,547 visitors from 51 countries. The exhibition brought together 160 exhibitors and brands, while its supporting programme featured 37 sessions and 42 speakers. These figures provide an initial measure of the reach of an event seeking to establish its position within the international trade show calendar.

Visitor demographics offer further insight into the event’s regional appeal. Thailand accounted for 65.4% of attendees, while international visitors represented the remaining 34.6%. Beyond the host country, the most strongly represented markets included China, Malaysia, Singapore, India, the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, Japan, Russia and South Korea.

This combination of domestic participation and international reach is an important starting point for a trade show focused on commercial connections. The challenge is not simply to attract global brands, but to bring together buyers, technicians, companies and professionals who can turn that presence into lasting business relationships.

Bangkok: A strategic gateway to the region

The decision to establish the show in Thailand reflects an opportunity that extends beyond a single national market. Bangkok is well positioned to serve as a meeting point between international companies and the wider Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region, where concerts, festivals, live shows and large-scale productions are generating new technological and professional demands.

Against this backdrop, Prolight + Sound Bangkok focuses on live entertainment, events and the technologies that make them possible. Its scope encompasses professional audio, lighting, stage technology, LED displays, audiovisual solutions, conference systems and musical instruments.

The show also features a Musical Instruments & Gear Zone dedicated to instruments, DJ systems, backline equipment and performance technology. This addition broadens the exhibition’s scope, connecting different segments of an industry in which music, technical production and new entertainment experiences increasingly share resources and commercial opportunities.

The event was organised through a collaboration between Messe Frankfurt, via its Hong Kong operations, and VNU Asia Pacific. The partnership brings together Messe Frankfurt’s international trade show expertise and VNU’s regional market knowledge, an important combination when developing a platform that must understand local requirements and build relationships with industry stakeholders.

Technology and professional development go hand in hand

A specialised trade show delivers its greatest value when product displays become opportunities to explore applications, compare solutions and understand the direction in which the industry is moving. At Prolight + Sound Bangkok, demonstrations and technology showcases formed part of the exhibition experience, presenting solutions for concerts, events and live productions, including professional audio systems and immersive technologies.

The educational programme complemented the commercial exhibition with 37 sessions featuring 42 speakers. This component is particularly relevant in markets where access to new technologies must be accompanied by technical training, continuous professional development and the skills needed to use those technologies effectively.

For manufacturers and distributors, these activities provide opportunities to engage with professionals looking to expand their knowledge and evaluate new tools. For local operators, direct exposure to international solutions can help identify alternatives, raise technical standards and respond to the increasingly demanding requirements of contemporary productions.

Developing a successful trade show therefore requires a vision that extends beyond exhibition space. Its long-term value will also depend on the quality of its educational content, its ability to encourage professional exchange and its capacity to establish lasting connections between technology developers and the people who put their solutions to work.

A first edition and a long-term challenge

The launch of Prolight + Sound Bangkok forms part of the Prolight + Sound brand’s international expansion into markets with growth potential. However, launching an exhibition is only the first step. Establishing a lasting presence requires continuity, broader commercial participation and a proposition that responds to the practical needs of professionals across the region.

The 4,547 visitors recorded at the inaugural edition provide a starting point against which future development can be measured. Moving forward, key indicators will include growth in international participation, the level of interest among regional buyers and the extent to which the show becomes a valuable meeting point for business, professional education and industry development.

The next edition has already been scheduled for 29 September to 1 October 2027, again at BITEC in Bangkok. This second edition will provide an important opportunity to assess the continuity of the initiative and its ability to expand the professional community it has begun to bring together.

For the professional audio, lighting, video and stage technology industries, new regional platforms offer an opportunity to bring innovation and knowledge closer to markets undergoing transformation. The long-term significance of Prolight + Sound Bangkok will ultimately depend on its ability to turn that opportunity into commercial relationships, professional development and a tangible contribution to Southeast Asia’s entertainment ecosystem.
