With its newly built auditorium, the Berger Scholengemeenschap School (BSG) in Bergen, Netherlands, now has a state-of-the-art room for lectures, presentations, theatre performances and other educational purposes. The combination of steeply rising seating, bright, friendly architecture and multifunctional use planned from the outset required flexible, powerful and at the same time unobtrusive equipment with versatile loudspeakers and lights. For the technical implementation, the school relied on the AV service provider AE Sound to create a tailor-made sound system and lighting package with integrated systems solutions from LD Systems and Cameo.
Precise and powerful sound system
The key requirements for the sound system in the new auditorium included even coverage of the tiered audience area and excellent speech intelligibility with sufficient reserves for concerts and other performances. Following a 3D simulation by the Adam Hall support team, the modular LD Systems MAILA system was chosen. “The school was used to working with a much smaller, conventional PA system,” explains Robert-Jan van den Burg, Managing Director of AE Sound. “As such, the use of LD Systems MAILA in the auditorium was a real eye-opener.”
The permanently installed, flown MAILA system in the BSG consists of 2 × 8 MAILA SAT array satellites, driven by a MAILA SPA power amplifier module also flown in the array and two powerful MAILA SUB subwoofers on the ground. The audio setup is complemented by LD Systems MON 12 A G3 active stage monitors and two LD Systems MAUI 28 MIX G3 column PA systems for flexible and mobile use.
“MAILA immediately convinced the end customer with its combination of design, dispersion and power,” explains Robert-Jan van den Burg. “In combination with the headsets used, there is no feedback, either on stage or in the auditorium. In addition to the high, clear speech intelligibility, MAILA also excels at live music with high sound levels.” Thanks to the dedicated MAILA app, AE-Sound was able to precisely calibrate the system on site. “The app is really intuitive and enabled us to perfectly synchronise the subs with the main array and the entire system to the room using the system EQ.”
Flexible lighting scenes
For the lighting in the auditorium, AE Sound used a combination of Cameo ZENIT P130 LSD LED PAR lights, LED Fresnel fixtures from the Cameo F series and Cameo P2 LED profilers with tungsten LEDs. “The ZENIT P130 is the ideal choice when you need maintenance-free, virtually silent LED all-rounders that also have an impressive range of colours and high output.”
In addition to the ZENIT P130, which is used as a top light and for decorative lighting tasks, the F1 T and F2 T Fresnel tungsten spotlights act as front, side and rear lights, supplemented by P2 LED profilers for precise accent lighting on stage.
