Disney magic lit up the skies over Abu Dhabi with an unprecedented display: a record-breaking 9,000-drone show over Yas Island officially marked the announcement of the company’s first theme park in the Middle East.
Organized by The Walt Disney Company in collaboration with Dubai-based drone show specialists Lumasky, the event set a new regional benchmark, surpassing the previous record of 5,983 drones set during the Dubai World Cup closing ceremony in April 2024.
More than just a drone show, the production was a full-scale multimedia spectacle. The drones were synchronized with a live 107-piece orchestra and a floating choir, alongside pyrotechnics and a water screen—executed with carefully planned safety protocols and flawless coordination.
One of the most jaw-dropping moments came when Disney’s signature “fairy dust swoosh” spiraled through the sky, forming a breathtaking 650-meter aerial replica of Cinderella’s Castle—ten times larger than its Florida counterpart. This massive icon then transformed into a futuristic prototype of the upcoming Abu Dhabi park, offering a glimpse at a bold new design direction distinct from the castles built in Disney’s American and European parks.
“To perfect the animation, we optimized every detail—figure sizing, viewing angles, drone trajectories relative to the pyrotechnics. Everything was fine-tuned for maximum visibility and safety,” said a Lumasky spokesperson. Pre-dawn lights-off rehearsals were key to ensuring both secrecy and seamless execution.
The result wasn’t just a performance—it was a statement. This show set a new standard for high-profile live announcements. Disney itself praised the display as “one-of-a-kind,” with major international media outlets, including Forbes, taking notice.
Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be located on Yas Island and is expected to open between 2030 and 2034. In the meantime, its launch has already made history in the skies above the UAE.
