USA – DAS Audio, the pro audio manufacturer, and Miami-based engineer Abraham Oleksnianski collaborated to modernise the sound at the Olympia Theater, one Miami’s most historic performance venues, for comedian Marcello Hernandez’s Netflix stand-up debut, American Boy. Opened in 1926, the theatre features Moorish architecture, a star-filled ceiling, and exceptional acoustics, and is now listed on the US National Register of Historic Places.

The theatre was already equipped with a DAS Audio Event Series system, but coverage issues in the upper balcony prompted a redesign ahead of the recent sold-out six-show run. Oleksnianski worked closely with DAS Audio to optimise clarity, vertical coverage, and structural safety while respecting the century-old building.

The final layout included two EVENT-115A subs flown per side, 12 EVENT-26A per side, two EVENT-118A subs on the ground, four ARTEC-526A front fills, ARA-M210 stage monitors, and a reorientation of the main PA to improve coverage across the 1,500-seat venue.

Abraham Oleksnianski, audio engineer, said: “This project meant the world to me. It’s a 100-year-old building with layers of history, and to walk back in, this time responsible for the sound of a Netflix special, was surreal. DAS Audio made it possible to take a challenging space and turn it into something truly remarkable.”

Carlos Henao, senior sales engineer, DAS Audio, added: “Abe represents what this industry is all about: craft, curiosity, and a commitment to doing the job right. We’re proud to support his vision and help bring new life to an iconic Miami venue.”

Oleksnianski noted that the upgraded system delivered “unbelievable clarity” with no distortion or artifacts, performing beyond what its compact form might suggest. Production staff for Netflix also commented on how seamlessly the PA integrated with their recording and camera workflows.
