Digital Projection boosts visuals at Norwegian arts centre.

Digital Projection’s Satellite TITAN 4K RGB projectors were recently installed at Kilden Performing Arts Centre in Kristiansand, Norway, providing a modular projection system tailored to the venue’s wide-ranging artistic programming.

At the core of the installation are two TITAN 4K RGB laser projectors, each using Digital Projection’s Satellite Modular Light System (MLS). Installed in the Concert and Theatre Hall, the system is designed to deliver enhanced visual flexibility and quiet operation, while meeting the stringent performance and acoustic demands of the space.

Each unit delivers around 10,000 ISO lumens from three rack-mounted light modules, optically combined into a single cable feeding the projector head. According to the manufacturer, the resulting output of approximately 26,000 ISO lumens per projector ensures vivid, high-brightness images suitable for live productions ranging from concerts and comedy to theatre and opera.

The modular design is designed to offer operational resilience. In the event of a light source failure, the system can continue operating with minimal disruption. The company says this built-in redundancy was key to supporting the venue’s high-volume schedule, where downtime needs to be kept to an absolute minimum.

Bravida, a Nordic integrated building services company, was awarded the public tender and delivered a turnkey solution including equipment delivery, installation and configuration. The project was designed around the Satellite MLS architecture to address the venue’s noise sensitivity and space constraints. The noise-generating elements of the system – primarily the laser light modules – are housed in remote control rooms, with only the compact, quiet projector heads installed in the performance spaces.

This approach reduces ambient noise on stage and in the audience areas, supporting Kilden’s strict acoustic requirements without compromising on image quality. The flexibility of the system also allows components such as lenses and light modules to be interchanged between halls, aiding maintenance and enabling varied setups for different performance types.

Bravida supplied the main projection hardware and cabling, while Kilden’s in-house AV team handled signal routing and system integration. The new setup works with the venue’s existing infrastructure, which includes camera feeds, a central video mixer and playback systems. Digital Projection says it is capable of handling both live and pre-recorded content, supporting a range of formats including projection mapping and presentation material.

Audun Kolstad, service manager at Bravida, said: “Digital Projection played a crucial role throughout the project, providing technical guidance during planning and delivering end-user training to ensure a seamless handover to Kilden’s staff. Their expertise helped shape a solution that precisely aligned with the tender’s performance and design specifications.

“As throw distances and optical needs changed during installation, Digital Projection supplied extra lenses to maintain flexible coverage, allowing the team to tailor projection setups for different events and requirements.”

“This project reflects how modern modular projection systems can meet the demanding needs of a national cultural venue. With its high brightness, exceptional image quality, quiet operation and built-in redundancy, the Digital Projection solution empowers Kilden Performing Arts Centre to deliver immersive visual experiences across a wide range of artistic disciplines.”
